My name is Adam Lucas, I was born and raised in West Virginia but moved away from my home state two years ago and brought my family to one of our favorite places, Hilton Head Island. This is my third year as a Highly Qualified Special Education teacher in Beaufort County, and my 22nd year overall working with students with special needs. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from Fairmont State College in Fairmont, WV and my Master's Degree in Special Education from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. I have Multi-Categorical Special Education certification (including Autism) and have worked as both a resource/inclusion teacher and a self-contained teacher and have always loved serving this population of students. My experience also includes serving as a Boys’ High School Basketball Coach for 8 years and serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve as an Intelligence Specialist for 8 years. I am married with four children ranging in age from 3 to 16. We live in Bluffton, SC and have always loved the Low-country. My wife is also in the field of education and is one of the Assistant Principals at HHIESCA. My goal for the students that I serve is to develop their cognitive, self-help, social, and daily living skills in an effort for them to become as independent as possible as they make the journey from High School to Adulthood.
