Graduation Practice and Parade: 8:30 – noon

Anyone participating in the graduation ceremony must attend graduation practice on Tuesday, May 24th at 8:30 AM. It’s a long morning, which will run until about noon. Here are the details:

  • Bring water.
  • Dress comfortably for being outside in the heat.
  • BRING YOUR CAP AND GOWN but not your tassel (we don’t want you losing it).
  • Check in at 8:30. Turn in your senior checkout sheet, which will be distributed this week.
  • Find your assigned seat in the main gym.
  • Put on your cap and gown for the parade through the elementary and middle schools.
  • Return to main gym for name announcement practice.
  • Practice procession to the stadium and how you will receive your diploma.
  • RAIN TICKETS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED AT THE END OF PRACTICE. Each grad gets three tickets for the main gym, where the ceremony will be held in case of inclement weather, and two tickets for the SCC auditorium.
  • Practice ends around noon.

Also on May 24th is Senior Awards Night, an evening celebrating some of the accomplishments of our seniors. Here is important information you need to know about that event:

  • Seniors report at 5:30 to the auxiliary gym for check-in. SENIORS MUST CHECK IN EARLY SO WE KNOW TO ANNOUNCE THEM.
  • Guests should be seated in the main gym by 6:00 PM.
  • SOME LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS who are awarding our students scholarships will present that evening. We don’t have a list of those organizations. They will check in when they arrive. If seniors don’t know if they need to be there to receive a scholarship, they should contact the organization awarding it.
  • Other scholarships: DEADLINE FRIDAY, MAY 20, 3:30 PM
    • In an effort to celebrate as many seniors as we can, parents or guardians can email Ms. White official notification from the organization or school who awarded their child a scholarship but is not presenting it at our Senior Awards Night. A list will be created and inserted into the program we distribute for the event. Email Ms. White at PLEASE USE THE SUBJECT LINE “SCHOLARSHIP RECOGNITION” in the email.
  • Graduation Cords: A variety of organizations distribute cords to graduates. If a senior is in an honor or service club, the faculty advisor can tell them their status and about any honor cords. In addition to that, Beaufort County School District will distribute the following cords. If seniors have questions about these cords, the contact people are listed:
    • Distinguished Diploma: contact your HHIHS counselor
    • College and Career Ready: contact your HHIHS counselor
    • Military Honor Cord: contact your HHIHS counselor
    • South Carolina Biliteracy: contact assistant principal Mr. Klint Aites
    • Senior Scholar: contact Ms. White
    • STEM Diploma: contact your HHIHS counselor
  • Students may not pick up cords early. Although not mandatory, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that students ATTEND AWARDS NIGHT, especially if they are anticipating cord(s). Graduation day is May 25th, and it’s even busier than Awards Night, so we can’t guarantee honor cord problem-solving on that day.

Wednesday, May 25

Graduation in the football stadium:

  • Seniors report in full regalia to the main gym by 5:30 PM. Don’t bring personal items (leave at home/in car).
  • Seniors: LEAVE YOUR RAIN TICKETS WITH YOUR GUESTS. Don’t bring them with you.
  • Dress is formal. No shorts, flip flops, hats, tank tops. This is our first year on turf instead of grass, but still be careful with your shoe choices.
    • Ladies: Formal attire. Cap, gown, tassel, hood. If you choose to wear sandals, make sure they are dress sandals (no flip-flops and no sneakers).
    • Gentlemen: Formal dress pants, light colored shirt and tie, dress shoes. Cap, gown, tassel, hood. No flip-flops and no sneakers.
    • Potential rain plans will be communicated as they are finalized in real time via school website and social media.
