MEDICATIONS:  If your child will be taking a prescribed medication at school, the attached forms must be completed and signed by you and the child’s doctor prior to the medication being brought to school. For ADHD medications and any other controlled substances prescribed by a doctor that must be taken in school, the medication will need to be locked in Nurse Amy’s office and administered by her.  For inhalers and diabetic medicines, the student is able to self-carry as long as you and the doctor sign off indicating that this is ok.

ILLNESS in the time of a Pandemic: For the health and safety of the entire school community, students should NOT report to school if they are feeling unwell, have a fever (temp of 100.4 or higher), OR Any of the following with or without fever:

•  Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing - or -

•  Loss of taste or smell - or –

•  New or worsening cough

This is not a complete list of all symptoms of COVID - 19, Other symptoms may include: fever, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea/vomiting, or diarrhea and your child should remain home with these symptoms and will need to be sent home if they acquire these symptoms during the day.  Many COVID - 19 cases show no symptoms at all, and a person is able to spread the virus up to two (2) days before they have any symptoms.

Please contact your child’s doctor if two or more of these symptoms are present or if your child has a fever for guidance on next steps.

A parent or student should never attempt to mask symptoms (provide medications that reduce fever in an effort to hide illness) because this puts the child and the school community at risk.  Actions of this nature may cause class, or worse, school shutdown. The bottom line is, in the time of a pandemic, it is especially important to be aware of the health of yourself and your child  We all need to look out for each other and we simply cannot interact with others if illness is suspected.

What if my child becomes ill while at school?
Any student reporting to the nurse’s office with a fever OR with two or more of the symptoms listed above will need to be sent home immediately.  It is expected that you or a person you have listed as an emergency contact will be able to collect the student from the school unless the student has driven to school and is well enough to drive home, then they may do so with your permission. We ask that, whether you have been vaccinated or not, you please come as soon as possible and no later than 45 minutes after you have been contacted. Please be sure to update contact numbers and to place the school’s phone number in your phone contact list so that it is not mistaken for a SPAM phone call and not answered.
